OEM - Modular Incense Holder

A hand-polished stainless steel modular incense holder designed in collaboration with Charlap Hyman & Herrero. 

Description 

A weighted plate of steel is suspended delicately by three interchangeable spheres. The largest sphere includes three cavities for the option to burn up to three incense sticks at once. In an attempt to remove the hand of the designer, Charlap Hyman & Herrero developed an algorithm to fracture and break the outline of the plate. The ‘shard’ shape and high polish of the plate evoke a piece of broken mirror, almost in contradiction to the impermeable stainless steel material it is made out of. The mirrored finish of the piece allows the objects to disappear in a spectacular way; at the same time reflecting back the stillness of the room, tranquility of the mind, and the soft spirit of the burning incense. Due to the hand-made nature of this piece, minor imperfections may occur. 

How to use 

Arrange the three spheres as you please to hold the sheet of steel confidently. Light one to three incense sticks and place them in the cavities of the largest sphere.

As you light your incense take three deep breaths, counting each, allowing the process to calm your mind. Place your incense in its holder and close your eyes, feel the weight of your body where it meets the ground. Embrace the natural rhythm of your breathing and take this moment to listen to the incense.

To clean your incense holder carefully remove the largest sphere while supporting the steel sheet with your other hand. Simply allow the remains from the burned incense to fall through the cavities of the sphere before returning it to support the steel plate. Wipe away ash with a dry cloth
