Image Crisis - K. T. Kobel & Sly Morikawa: Fade Into You

FADE INTO YOU is an exhibition document produced for the 2025 show at Laidbug,  Tokyo, featuring works by K. T. Kobel and Sly Morikawa—combining installation views, process, and selected texts. 

Fade Into You considers the tension between intimacy, distance and memory. In a dialogue between hazy photography and atmospheric painting, the artists investigate how desire is shaped—and distorted—by space, perception, and cultural cues. Drawing from the visual vernacular of Tokyo’s love hotels, the works engage with emotional landscapes that feel both familiar and imagined.

Presented like disjointed memories or cinematic stills, the images form a non-linear meditation on longing, absence, and the ways we project meaning onto fleeting moments. Rather than illustrating a shared story, the exhibition offers two parallel perspectives intersecting around desire.
